About
Laurie Swanson, LMT, SEP (she/her)
Somatics has been my passion since 1998, when I stumbled upon Body Awareness courses at Western WA University’s Fairhaven College of Interdisciplinary Studies. Thomas Hanna defined somatics as “…the field of study dealing with somatic phenomena, i.e., the human being as experienced by (themselves) from the inside.” Learning about the history of societal influences on our relationships with our bodies, and various types of bodywork, as well as becoming more embodied myself, changed the course of my life. I discovered the body as a great source of information, wisdom, emotion, empowerment, connection to others and the environment, and an overall richer, deeper, life experience. I graduated from Brenneke School of Massage in 2000 and have since pursued ongoing education in bodywork and nervous system health. I also continue to do my own personal body-based mindfulness practices on my never-ending embodiment journey. I enjoy creating space for listening to our bodies, as well as experiencing more peace in our bodies and minds, and I’m honored to be able to help others through touch and somatics. I believe this work can be powerful and transformative for individuals and society.
